He may have lost the championship, and wasn’t even on the road to getting the belt back, but at least Junior dos Santos was fighting.
Then USADA rolled up on him prior to his UFC 215 pairing with Francis Ngannou and said, “Nah,” and the Brazilian was suddenly stuck in limbo while USADA sorted themselves out.
Dos Santos has since been cleared of the worst of it, as USADA found that he’d inadvertently taken a tainted supplement, but what about that lost time? And what of the damage an alleged failed drug test did to his spotless reputation?
Yeah, Dos Santos got screwed. And he’s not to keen on USADA right now.
As per MMAFighting:
The former UFC heavyweight champion said last year was a “nightmare” and he feels like he was “going through hell” trying to prove to USADA he didn’t knowingly cheat.
“They stopped my whole career to investigate the thing,” dos Santos said. “I think that goes in the completely opposite direction of the law. I’m innocent until proven guilty. In this case, it’s different — you’re guilty until you’re proven innocent. So, yeah. This is not good, man. Especially in my case, that I knew I didn’t do anything wrong and I was going all through this situation. It was a very bad feeling.”
You have to really wonder whether USADA is helping clean up the sport or just make a new set of problems.
