Welcome to CagedInsider’s coverage of UFC Fight Night 131, which came to us from Utica, NY, and featured as its main event rising bantamweight Jimmie Rivera versus former WSOF star Marlon Moraes.
First up: Team Tiger Schulmann rep Julio Arce against Swede Daniel Teymur.
Teymur’s Octagon debut ended in a loss via decision, while Arce tried – and failed – to gain entrance via the “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series”. Arce has since been called up as a late-replacement and won that bout, so now’s his time to create some momentum.
They come out throwing strikes in the first, Teymur with leg-kicks and Arce with a jab, and while the Swede looks to gain some measure of cage control by muscling the New Yorker around, Arce is all about the movement.
Arce’s boxing gets sharper and sharper in the second, with that jab turning into combos. He even briefly attempts a standing guillotine.
In the third, Arce is brimming with confidence, and when he catches a kick, he dumps Teymur to the canvas. A slick scramble and Arce has Teymur’s back, and after some hand-fighting, Arce is squeezing the choke and Teymur is tapping out.
No getting out of this one! 👀
