When they first met in the cage, at UFC Fight Night 64, they didn’t exactly thrill us.

So when it was announced that Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz would rematch for the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 127… eh, so what?

But then they set the Octagon on fire.

As with nearly every Manuwa fight, the threat of him knocking someone out in brutal and sudden fashion loomed ever present. Yet the Polish fighter had done his homework, and after dropping the Brit with a counterpunch, nearly snagged a choke.

The high-kicks started flowing in Round 2, with one of them tagging Blachowicz flush – so flush that you had to wonder how the heck Blachowicz was still conscious. But he was, and those counters and takedown attempts was enough to make Manuwa hate life.

The final seconds of the third round had Blachowicz hitting a takedown and easing into top position, which spelled certain doom on the scorecards for the local boy.

It was a helluva fight, though. We never wanted this rematch, but could we make this a trilogy?
