The worst ways to screw up in the Octagon are to lose like a chump, and beat one of the UFC’s rising stars. Michelle Waterson has miraculously done both.

Since coming to the organization from a somewhat successful run in Invicta FC, “The Karate Hottie” smoked cannon fodder Angela Magana. Then she wrecked Paige VanZant – and in case you didn’t know, VanZant was the female equivalent of Sage Northcutt. That win earned her a crack at the strawweight divisional elite, but Waterson seemed totally out of her league against now-champ Rose Namajunas, and she failed to deliver the goods against Tecia Torres. In sum, beyond the Magana fight, Waterson diminished a UFC star-in-the-making, then fell to the best.

That’s not good for a UFC career.

This weekend, Waterson will take on ham-and-egger Cortney Casey in the opening bout on the main card of UFC on FOX 29. You have to think that if Waterson had done what she was supposed to do, she’d likely be headlining that card instead of playing curtain-jerker.

I guess it’s time to start wondering if the Karate Hottie is a bust…

Anyway, here’s her and Casey’s Road to the Octagon vid.
