She was nowhere near being ready for the Octagon when she was thrust into the mainstream consciousness as a TUF competitor, but since leaving the UFC for Invicta FC, Angela Hill has been kicking a ridiculous amount of ass, going undefeated in three outings and earning herself the strawweight title.

At last night’s Invicta FC 20, Hill took on challenger Kaline Medeiros, and though the Brazilian was game, well, the Invicta cage is Hill’s house. Believe that.

With her kickboxing pedigree, the American has always been thought of as having a weaker grappler game than striking game, so of course Medeiros was a constant stream of takedown attempts. And she succeeded in getting the champ down in the first round. But Hill threatened with triangles¬†and armbars off her back, and kept Medeiros guessing with elbows from the bottom – a clear sign that the challenger wasn’t going to have much of an advantage anywhere.

All five rounds saw the duo trading kicks, knees and punches, and in that realm Hill’s superiority enabled her to pivot out of the way, score and rack up enough points to convince the judges she was the better fight when time ran out.
