Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino scored another first round TKO last night at Invicta FC 13 in Las Vegas, to successfully defend the promotion’s featherweight title for the second time.

“Cyborg” entered the cage a prohibitive favorite at around -3000 against challenger Faith Van Duin, exploded from the opening bell with punches to the head and a knee to the body. A punch to Van DUin’s head as she crumbled to the mat brought the stoppage at 0:45 of the first stanza.

The Brazilian, who is rumored to face Ronda Rousey in the next year (possibly at a catch-weight), improves to 14-1-1 in her MMA career. Van Duin, of New Zealand, drops to 5-2.

The event featured two other title bouts.

At atomweight, Ayako Hamasaki became Invicta’s first ever Japanese champion, earning a split decision win over Herica Tiburico of Brazil. Hamasaki, who was cornered by the legendary Megumi Fujii, used a variety of takedowns and strong top control throughout the five rounds to grind the dynamic Tiburico out.

Tiburico, who had won the atomweight belt with an upset victory over Michelle Waterson, had her share of bright spots in the bout — including a near finish from a guillotine choke in round one. But by the final bell, she seemed simply stifled by Hamasaki’s patient and technical attack.

Tonya Evinger of the US controlled Irene Aldana of Mexico from the opening bell of their fight for Invicta’s vacant bantamweight title. The veteran Evinger utilized superior grappling to set up damaging strikes and threatening several submissions, including a tight armbar in round one. But she struggled to put her opponent away, until finally forcing the stoppage at 4:38 of the fourth round with punches from mount.
