Artem Levin and Simon Marcus fought to a majority decision draw in their middleweight title bout at GLORY 21 in San Diego last night.
The result, while leaving their rivalry unsettled, allowed Levin to continue his reign as GLORY champion.
The two had met in a memorable (and closely contested) bout in the Lion Fight promotion under full Muay Thai rules back in 2013. That night Marcus, of Toronto, Canada, used clinch tactics to earn a unanimous decision on the judges scorecards. With the two fighting under GLORY rules (which restrict elbow strikes and limit clinch tactics), Levin, who hails from Russia but now fights out of San Diego, was seen as a slight favorite.
They clinched in this bout more than expected however, and the judges scored the bout a majority draw — to the shock of announcer Mauro Ranallo:

The event also included a one night heavyweight contender’s tournament, which saw American Xavier Vigney record two knockout victories.
The “X-Man,” as he is known, quickly stopped fellow American Maurice Jackson with a hard right hand in his first fight. Jackson had opened with a series of high kicks, but absorbed heavy leg kicks before getting cracked.
In his second bout, Vigney knocked out British rival Chi “Chopper” Lewis-Parry with a flurry of punches in round two. The two had engaged in a war of words in the weeks preceding, and were even separated in a scuffle at the event’s weigh-ins. Their tournament final bout, as expected, was a slug-fest — which saw Vigney out-last and eventually punch out the bigger man.
In a co-feature bout, American karate legend Raymond Daniels recorded another highlight reel knockout — this one over an over-matched Justin Baesman, who was fighting in his first professional kickboxing bout.
