If you thought the main event of UFC 222 was going to be a slaughter, well, you thought right.

Featherweight queen Cris Cyborg was the only pay-per-view star available to fill in the gap left by the scrapped Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar fight, and the only lady willing to face the best female fighter in the world was undersized Invicta FC champ Yana Kunitskaya.

Oh well. This is how the sausage gets made, and making sausage is ugly.

Things started off mildly okay for the Russian – I mean, when Cyborg waltzed across the cage and started cracking her with pinpoint-accurate strikes, Kunitskaya was at least able to change levels and nail a single-leg takedown. (Taking down Cyborg, that’s almost a moral win, right?) Anyway, the Brazilian popped back up, kept firing away while remaining cognizant of Kunitskaya’s takedown threat, and ultimately withered her until the ref jumped in.

Hey, credit for Yunitskaya for stepping in there and helping save the show.
