When last we saw Aljamain Sterling, he was getting utterly starched by Marlon Moraes. But he’s back, and ready to get back on the title track.

He just has to get past Welshman Brett Johns, who’s been killing it on the UK UFCs, and has come to New Jersey to fight and eat real pizza.

The first round sees Sterling play his usual measured, cautious game – you know, the one he always begins with, the one that features kicks from distance and smothering wrestling against the cage. On that basis alone, he probably takes the first round.

However, midway through the second Sterling totally opens up with his boxing, and for a brief while Johns is covered up and eating leather. To put an exclamation point on things, Sterling hits a takedown and batters his foe. None of this is enough to finish Johns, but damn is it emphatic.

Sterling reverts to wrestling mode in the third, taking a big, figurative crap on John’s judo black belt with takedowns and wrestler’s back-control. Another big takedown in the final 30 seconds and Sterling runs out the clock slinging fists while on John’s back.
