Swedish Viking giant Alexander Gustafsson has been bumping up against the ceiling of the light-heavyweight division for years, and is credited with being the only guy to ever give the great Jon Jones trouble in the cage. Sure, he couldn’t quite get past Daniel Cormier when a belt was on the line, and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson put him to sleep, but Gustafsson is one of the best – that’s undeniable.
So with a tiny bit of fanfare, he’s announced that he’s signed a new contract with the UFC.
He’s also thrown some shade at champ Cormier, who is old by cagefighting standards and has often talked about retirement.
As per Gustafsson’s Instagram:
While others are talking about retirement, I just signed my new deal with the @ufc today. I am grateful, excited, and I will be fighting very soon! I need to thank my family, my team @wesportagency and @allstarsgymsweden . I would also like to give a special thank you to my fight management @neems01 and @majdishammas at Moments Sports Management for securing the biggest deal of my career. Soon to be the world champion!!! ??#soontobeworldchamp #team #loyalty #family
What do you think? Can the Swede rise up and finally claim that championship title that has eluded him for so long?
