UFC President Dana White will be wearing a different hat than usual this weekend, as his adopted hometown of Las Vegas hosts the biggest boxing match in years — perhaps ever.

In an odd twist, White will be doing media duties for Yahoo! Sports for the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather, Jr and Manny Pacquiao tomorrow.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported yesterday that White has has enjoyed a long history on the Las Vegas boxing scene, both promoting and managing fighters, as well as acting as a trainer at United Champions Gym.

Among the other trainers at United was Mayweather’s uncle, Roger — a champion boxer in his own right who will be among Mayweather’s cornermen on Saturday.

Iole also noted that White was among Mayweather’s first sponsors. White owned a boxing equipment company named Bullenbeiser Boxing Gear in the 1990’s, and Mayweather wore the brand for his first professional bouts.

“Floyd wore my stuff for his first four fights,” White is quoted by Iole for Yahoo Sports. “I still have the stuff somewhere, though I don’t know where it is.”

Back in 2013, light middleweight titlist Ishe Smith talked about White’s days as a boxing trainer to Fight Hub, calling White “a hell of a trainer” and “a hell of a guy” — adding, “to call him a friend is an honor.”

Smith recalled seeing White at local boxing tournaments in the 1990’s, and called him “always, a great person.”
