Zoila Gurgel may have been out with a torn ACL for 19 months, but no one can ever accuse her of not making up for lost time. Coming off a win no less than a week ago she has already lined up her next fight at Bellator 83 against Jessica Eye. Bellator 83 takes place on December 7th which would make two fights in less than two months. Zoila is supposedly still the 115 pound champion in Bellator, but with no current contender due to not having a tournament to produce one. So, once again Zoila will compete at 125 since the company is planning on having a tournament for a 125 belt soon. This may be Zoila’s attempt to become a two weight class divisional champion.
Zoila’s record currently stands at 12-1 with her only loss coming to former Strikeforce women’s contender Miesha Tate. She will definitely have a bigger test with Jessica Eye than she did against he last opponent considering her last opponent only had a record of 4-5 which can only consider her a warm up fight. Jessica Eye’s record stands at 8-1, adding her amateur record she stands at 13-1, and she is also riding a five fight win streak. Both of these fighters are naturally gifted, and the one that wins will surely be a favorite in the supposed upcoming women’s tournament.
Most of the time the women get left to the wayside, but with the UFC entering the market of women’s MMA soon the top fighters could be scooped up. Should Strikeforce fall (which looks to be the situation), the UFC will most likely enter the women into the UFC, and if they want to have a complete division they will be taking fighters from everywhere. Surely the UFC will have their eyes on the winner of this fight, and another way to pull a potential star from Bellator.
