The third act in the career of Melvin Guillard will continue its run this February, as the “Young Assassin” returns to action for Bellator MMA.
Guillard, who suffered a broken hand in a split decision loss to Brandon Girtz at his promotional debut back in August, will face Mike Bronzoulis at the Bellator: Shamrock vs. Gracie mega-event on February 19 in Houston.
The announcement was made by Bellator President Scott Coker last night:
The 32 year old Guillard is 32-15-2 (with two no contests) in a wildly “up-and-down” MMA career.
After rising through the local circuits of his native Louisiana in the early 2000’s, “The Young Assassin” enjoyed a strong run with the UFC beginning in 2005. In July of 2011, he scored his fifth straight win in the promotion with a knockout of Shane Roller, bringing his record to 29-8-1 (with one contest). But he struggled to keep momentum, and was cut from the promotion in 2014. A disastrous run with World Series of Fighting followed, where Guillard failed to make weight in two straight bouts.
Mike Bronzoulis, who is coincidentally known as “The Greek Assassin,” is a native of Houston, Texas and will likely enjoy his hometown crowd’s support. He is 18-9-1 in MMA, and was last seen at Bellator’s Dynamite event, where he lost to Josh Thompson via submission.
Bellator: Shamrock vs. Gracie will be televised on Spike TV. Here is the updated card:
Bellator MMA Openweight Main Event: Ken Shamrock (28-16-2) vs. Royce Gracie (14-2-3)
Bellator MMA Heavyweight Main Event: Kimbo Slice (5-2) vs. Dada 5000 (2-0)
Bellator MMA Featherweight Feature Bout: Emmanuel Sanchez (12-2) vs. Daniel Pineda (21-11)
