Bellator is going big again this Saturday night, with Bellator 142 bringing us a one-night, four-man light-heavyweight tournament, a light-heavyweight championship bout featuring Tito Ortiz, and a ton of kickboxing bouts. The event is a far cry from the rigid affairs former Bellator boss Bjorn Rebney used to put together – and you can thank new frontman Scott Coker for that.
In the ramp up to Saturday’s spectacle, Bellator has released the following video on Coker and his background. There’s a lot of ink being devoted to former UFC star Ortiz, his opponent Liam McGeary (the incumbent champ), the mini-tournament and even the promotion’s blending of MMA and kickboxing, but none of that would be possible without Coker’s influence behind the scenes. So take a gander at the video. We know so much about the UFC’s Dana White, but what Coker did with Strikeforce and is currently doing with Bellator makes him part of a rare breed called the “successful MMA promoter”.
