Bellator mastermind and evil genius Scott Coker has orchestrated the pairing of Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock for a future Bellator event, and it’s going to be either awful or really awful when the cage door shuts on them. But it will certainly draw an insane amount of eyeballs, which is ultimately the point, because how else are you going to get to see two old, washed up men fight?

The announcement of the match-up is also a great opportunity to dig up some pics from the first time Kimbo and Shamrock clashed. Yup, that’s right. They were supposed to headline an EliteXC event back in 2008, and though Shamrock ended up bailing at the very last minute because of a (self-inflicted) cut to his eye and Seth Petruzelli took his place, the famed Internet brawler and the UFC 1 vet did weigh in and scuffle then.

And guess what, my brothers? I was there.

The scene: Some spot within the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL, which is near Ft. Lauderdale and riddled with alligators and fetid Floridians.

Here’s good ol’ Bas Rutten giving me the stinkeye.

Roy Nelson, before he got disillusioned and jaded.

Andrei Arlovski, before he starred in “300”.

There’s a lot going on in this pic – Tito Ortiz, crying baby, etc. – but really speaks of the moment is the creepy fellow in the back. I think that guy just collects restraining orders for sport.

Here’s some dude.

Yeah, that’s Gina Carano nude under that towel. And yeah, it fell briefly and we all got a glimpse of Salvation.

Here’s Ken pondering how much he’s making versus how much Kimbo is making for the fight.

Mr. Slice.

Ever the showman, Shamrock ended up shoving Kimbo for turning his back on him, the stage erupted into a scuffle. We all knew it was somewhat fake, but it was entertaining. And now, a century later, we’re going to finally see them throw down.

Ah, who am I kidding? Shamrock is going to fail his pre-fight drug test, and Michael Chandler is going to take his place.
