Ben Askren is taking a page from the book of pro wrestling, as the former Bellator welterweight champion and current ONE FC fighter believes a “work” is in store.

Askren, on Twitter, feels that Bellator’s decision to pair Tito Ortiz with current middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko at the May 17 pay-per-view is nothing more than a pre-planned fight. The bout has yet to be made official for Bellator 120.

“I think Tito vs. (Shlemenko) is a work,” Askren posted on Twitter after news of the fight became public. “What do you think.”

Several have weighed in on the remark. Askren left the promotion after his contract expired, signing with Asia’s top MMA promotion after talks fell through between his management and the UFC.

Askren also posted that Ortiz, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, and Shlemenko “have ties.”
