The leather gloves are finally coming off between the UFC and the number two promotion, Bellator MMA, as they prepare to test the pay-per-view waters. We’ve heard remarks from UFC president Dana White, calling Bjorn Rebney “Bjork” as well as his mocking of their upcoming pay-per-view. Now Rebney has responded with his own underhanded insults.

“Our point of difference is that we’re real sports competition, and when it boils down to world title fights, when it boils down to crowning our champion at 170, or 55 or 45 or whatever weight class, guys are going to earn the right to fight for that championship and they’re going to have to beat the champion. It’s the toughest tournament in sports, it’s real sports competition. We’re not sitting around waiting for some wrestler to lose two fights straight and then bark his way into a 205 world title fight. That’s just not the essence of what we do.”

Rebney refers to the criticized bout between Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones. Rebney is spreading some nonfactual information though.  Chael Sonnen had only lost one fight at the time of his LHW title shot against Jones. It was after the fight that Sonnen had his second consecutive loss. Ironically, Sonnen is also starring on the next headline fight for the promotion against former champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on Aug. 17 in Boston, Mass. for their first event on Fox Sports 1 (currently The Speed Channel).
