The biggest mistake Ryan Couture ever made was to be born with the last name “Couture”, because his name has way too much value in terms of recognition than his record and ability warrant.
In the co-main event of Bellator 201, Couture, with dad Randy in his corner, squared off against Saad Awad. And in case you don’t remember, Awad is so good he once knocked out Will Brooks before Brooks became champ. On paper, this match-up was a mismatch. In reality, it was a huge mismatch.
Which isn’t to say that Ryan didn’t put up a good fight. He did, or tried to at least. By throwing kicks and punches whenever he was in range, and reaching for the tie-up whenever his foe was in close, the Couture lad made Awad work for it.
But Awad was simply too dangerous and too accurate with his strikes, and in the waning seconds of the bout’s only round, he clipped Ryan, pursued him, unloaded with a storm of leather, and eventually withered the poor dude against the cage. The ref mercifully jumped in.
