Signing with Bellator has not always been a blessing for some of the sports top fighters.

Benson Henderson, Roy Nelson and others have struggled upon coming over from other promotions.

Jon Fitch is hoping to buck that trend.

The former UFC title challenger and ex-World Series of Fighting champion will make his first appearance for the promotion on Saturday night when he takes on Paul Daley in the co-main event of Bellator 199. The card airs live on Paramount Network from the SAP Center in San Jose.

Fitch, who is now 40 years old, has won four consecutive bouts since a 2014 loss to Rousimar Palhares. Last June, he submitted Brian Foster following decision wins over Jake Shields, Joao Zeferino and Yushin Okami.

For Fitch, this is just another obstacle placed before him in a career that includes fights with the likes of former champions Georges St-Pierre, BJ Penn and Johny Hendricks, along with Demian Maia, Shonie Carter, Josh Burkman and Diego Sanchez.

Can Fitch still compete with the best in the world? He’ll be tested right off the bat vs. Daley, who – like Fitch – has faced some of the elite around.

Daley is 7-2 over his last nine, with the two losses coming to current Bellator champion Rory MacDonald and former titleholder Douglas Lima. Like Fitch, he once called the Octagon home, fighting the likes of Josh Koscheck, Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett.

With MacDonald sitting atop the welterweight division, Lima looking to reclaim his title and the likes of Michael Page, Neiman Gracie and Dillon Danis all making headlines, Fitch will need to prove himself right away to avoid getting lost in the shuffle.
