Armenian grappler Georgi Karakhanyan positively, absolutely has Bubba Jenkins’ number, but when it comes to living up to his potential – and the hype that potential carried with it – he’s pretty much fallen flat.

Take, for instance, his Bellator 170 bout against Emmanuel Sanchez. Sanchez is a tough, grinder-type, but can’t ever finish a fight. That should’ve given Karakhayan some wiggle room in terms of finding a finish himself, but… nope.

Round 1 saw Karakhanyan struggle to get his opponent down, and when he finally did, Sanchez was able to reverse him and get on top. Sanchez turned up the heat with his wrestling in the second, getting the Armenian down and pound him – he even got deducted a point for an illegal knee. That didn’t matter though, for while Karakhanyan dominated the final round with back-control, he was completely unable to sink the choke, and Sanchez had done just enough to warrant the judges’ decision by the narrowest of margins.
