He may be showing signs of wear and tear, but former champ Marcos Galvao still has some fire in him, and that fire enabled him to grind out a close win over the veteran LC Davis at last night’s Bellator 166.
Utilizing his bread-and-butter jiu-jitsu with a healthy dose of wrestling, the Brazilian established control early on by taking Davis to the mat and dry-humping him. Of course Davis was canny enough to stay out of submission danger, but when you’ve got a man on top of you treating you like a penitentiary cellmate, that doesn’t look good for the judges.
Davis – whose fought everywhere from the IFL to the WEC – began stuffing those takedown attempts in Round 2 as Galvao began to fatigue. But his scoring on the feet only really commenced well into Round 3, via knees and short punches from the clinch, so when time ran out, the judges gave it to Galvao.
