Few fighters can boast that they were knocked out in a fight yet still managed to win. Matt Mitrione – formerly of the UFC and now with Bellator – can now count himself among the few.
At tonight’s Bellator 157: “Dynamite 2” show, which blends MMA bouts with kickboxing bouts in true Scott Coker style, “Meathead” took to the cage and faced off against Carl Seumanutafa, and in the ensuing fistfight Mitrione ate a right hand that sent him tumbling to the canvas.
But a tackle error by Seumanutafa saw him try to take back-mount on the fetal Mitrione instead of just pounding him out (which would’ve surely meant victory), and that gave the UFC vet enough time to recover… and feed Seumanutafa and diving punch that put the fighter on the bottom out as well.
This time referee John McCarthy jumped in, and Mitrione had notched himself a win in the Bellator cage.
Result: Matt Mitrione def. Carl Seumanutafa via TKO (Punches) at 3:22, R1
