The weigh-in event for Bellator 137 yesterday was something of a disaster, with two key combatants failing to make weight.
First, the co-main event, which was to feature two of the promotion’s top bantamweights, has been called off due to Mike Richman weighing in over the limit.
Richman struggled with his cut for the bout against Eduardo Dantas, and ended up weighing in at 139.2 pounds.
Reportedly, Richman was offered to fight at a catchweight — provided he weighed at no more than 147 lbs. at fight night — but he declined.
Richman was on a two fight winning streak since moving to 135 lb limit. He and Dantas were scheduled to fight back in March, but their bout was called off due to an injury sustained by Richman during training.
Second, Bellator Middleweight champion Brandon Halsey weighed in over the limit for his title defense against Kendall Grove — and has essentially been stripped of his title.
Ariel Helwani has reported on Twitter that it’s still possible for Grove to be crowned Bellator middleweight champion with a win tonight:
Bellator tells me that the deal is this: if Halsey wins, the belt is vacated. If Grove wins, he's the new champ. 5-round fight.

Halsey and Grove have engaged in a war of words in the lead-up to the fight. As reported here at Caged Insider, Grove is adamant that Halsey is using Performance Enhancing Drugs.
Bellator 137 takes place tonight in Temecula, California. The event will be televised on SPIKE TV at 9 pm ET/PT, 8 pm Central.
