Bellator has announced that its heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov will have his first title defense versus Vitaly Minakov, November 22nd. The bout will headline Bellator 108, which will be hosted by Sands Casino Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Volkov (19-3) took home Bellator’s vacant belt to close out 2012, by defeating Brett Rogers, Vinicius “Spartan” and finally Richard Hale. The 6’7 tall, Russian fighter has won ten straight fights.  Seven of “Drago’s” wins during that stretch have come via stoppage. He’s also just 24 years old.

Minakov (12-0) locked up a title fight with his fellow countryman during Bellator’s “Summer Series” tourney. In the semifinals, the heavyweight knocked out Ron Sparks, and in the finals at Bellator 97, he stopped Ryan Martinez. 11 of the 28 year-old’s victories to date have come by submission or stoppage. That’s a pretty impressive finishing rate no?

So, that has the potential to be a pretty intriguing fight, and clearly, the heavyweight belt will remain in Russia hands no matter who wins.

The main card for the event will be broadcast on SPIKE. Stay tuned to Caged for all your Bellator news.
