The next Bellator event on the horizon is Bellator 205. Though Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will be knocking out Roger Huerta in the main card, the main event will see AJ McKee take on John Teixeira.

It’s somewhat interesting that Pitbull is taking a backseat to McKee. After all, Pitbull is one of the organization’s long-time stars.

Here’s the thing about McKee: he’s undefeated, has fought exclusively in the Bellator cage, and after 11 bouts (!) isn’t even remotely considered to be worthy of a featherweight title shot. That’s a remarkable set of facts surrounding this guy. Can you imagine anyone else going 11-0 in Bellator and not at least fighting a big “name” fighter?

Part of it has to do with McKee being brought along slowly. After all, before Bellator, Little AJ wasn’t really doing anything other than watching his daddy – the veteran journeyman Antonio McKee – lay on people for maddening decisions.

But AJ has managed to earn wins via submission and knockout, and if he hasn’t learned from the mistakes of his pops, he’s at least shown he’s capable of being more than a human blanket.

Teixeira is no world-beater, so hopefully this particular test has McKee facing someone even tougher the next time around. Because at some point, we’re going to have to start paying attention to this dude – especially if he keeps winning.
