It seem like ancient history now, but it wasn’t that long ago when fans throughout the MMA world were crossing their fingers that Fedor Emelianenko would make his way to the UFC, just as many other PRIDE stars did. Of course, it never happened, and after losing three straight fights with Strikeforce, Fedor finished out his storied career while fighting in Russia.
Recently Fedor was interviewed by WHOA! TV and had some interesting things to say about UFC boss man Dana White, and why he never ended up in the Octagon. The 37 year-old stated (comment via MMA Fighting.com):
“In my opinion, everything was in Dana White’s hands,’ says Emelianenko. “Because at that moment, I just felt like ‘this guy, he just hates us.’ Like, personally to [me]. There were insults coming from Dana White all the time. There were many very loud things said, but for real nothing happened. It was [all talk].”
Not surprisingly, White was asked by MMA Fighting.com about Fedor’s comments, and here’s what the UFC President had to say in response:
“Me and Lorenzo (Fertitta) were f–king laughing about that,” White said on Thursday. “Yeah so I hated him. Who did I hate worse than Tito (Ortiz)? The guy lost f–king 100 fights in a row and retired in the UFC.
“We made every big fight with every fighter since we bought this company. You don’t think we wanted to do Fedor vs. Brock Lesnar? I f–king wanted to make that fight so bad.”
White went on to relay, as he has in the past, that the offer to Fedor and his management team was massive, but that ultimately, they turned it down. White claims the offer was so good that after returning from negotiations he thought “Thank f–king God they turned that offer down.”
