What MMA’s Version Of An All-Star Event Could Look Like

Luke Rockhold

The NBA All-Star Game is one of the few major events that engulf the better part of the sports world.

Players from all over the planet play the game, with the best of the best getting a shot in the NBA.

So, with the all-star event taking place this weekend, what a perfect time to draw up what an MMA all-star contest would look like.

It’s hard to decide how you would split the teams, but going USA vs. The World just makes the most sense.

So, here we go. For arguments sake, we’ll just group fighters into a handful of weight classes, allowing them to not worry about cutting weight or whatnot.

Team USA
Jon Jones
Daniel Cormier
Stipe Miocic
Anthony Johnson

Luke Rockhold
Robbie Lawler
Ben Askren
Chris Weidman

Dominick Cruz
Demetrious Johnson
Frankie Edgar
Max Holloway

Ronda Rousey
Miesha Tate
Holly Holm

MMA: UFC 194-Aldo vs McGregor-Weigh Ins

Team World
Fabricio Werdum
Alistair Overeem
Alexander Gustafsson
Liam McGeary

Yoel Romero
Anderson Silva
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza
Rory MacDonald

Conor McGregor
Jose Aldo
Rafael dos Anjos
Bibiano Fernandes

Cris “Cyborg” Justino
Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Claudia Gadelha

There you have it. You would have to set up some kind of rules to help off-set the weight differences between the groupings, but things would get very interesting.

Would you change anything about the rosters? What would be a fair way to pair the fighters up? Feel free to comment and offer your input on our social media pages.
