With its recent contract renewal with Versus, WEC executive Reed Harris says that they may be going international.
As a recent guest on MMA Junkie Radio, Harris said that events may be hosted in Mexico, Canada and Europe in the next few years.
Officials from both UFC and WEC have openly spoke about the plans to move into Mexico, which has never hosted a UFC event. WEC on the other hand has been airing events in Mexico since 2008 and Harris has spoken about possibly doing an event in Mexico City.
Harris was quoted saying on the MMA Junkie Radio show; “We’re really focusing on the States, but (we’ll) possibly do one in Mexico City and then Canada.”
Eventually Harris also hopes to cross over WEC to Europe. Even though he’s excited about making the move, he knows from UFC, that it’s hard work.
“It took the UFC a lot of time and a lot of money to make that thing work,” he said. “I don’t know if we’re quite there yet.”
