The UFC debut of Brazilian prospect Kevin Souza was a success tonight in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as the wiry striker was able to maintain his range and land enough strikes to earn a split decision against countryman Felipe Arantes at Ultimate Fight Night 28.
Souza scored particularly with a solid right hand to the body in round one, but found himself taken to the mat late in the stanza. Arantes attacked with an Americana keylock and advanced to mount before time expired.
Souza out-land Arantes and avoided his takedowns throughout round two, and a Arantes takedown in round three wasn’t enough to sway the judges.
The scores are read, 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28, all in favor of Souza.
At Ultimate Fight Night 28, Kevin Souza defeated Felipe Arantes by split decision (29-28, 28-29, and 29-28).
