The Brazilians are coming! The Brazilians are coming! That’s right, UFC on FX 8, which is set to take place in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil has just added three bouts in which Brazilian-born fighters will take on foreign talent. This is usual of the cards that are held in Brazil, because the fans down there are not too keen on their countrymen fighting one another.
Fabio Maldonado will be getting his last chance in the Octagon after losing three straight to Glover Teixeira, Igor Pokrajac and Kyle Kingsbury. Maldonado contemplated a drop down to 185 after his last loss, but it looks like he is sticking around at 205 to take on Canadian native Roger Hollett. The former MFC champion made his debut last September at UFC 152 against Matt Hamill, but lost a lackluster decision.
Undefeated bantamweight Hugo “Wolverine” Viana looks to go 3-0 in the Octagon against Francisco Rivera, who has had his ups and downs in the promotion. Rivera lost two straight fights for Zuffa and was released from the company. Two knockout wins outside of the promotion led to his return, where he won three fights, but unfortunately for him a failed drug test overturned one of his wins.
Lastly, a fight between Gleison Tibau and John Cholish has been announced for the card. With 18 fights in the Octagon, Tibau is one of the most experienced lightweights in the UFC. His last fight was a split decision loss to Evan Dunham at UFC 156. It will be over a year since Cholish last fought, as injuries have kept him sidelined. So far, he has gone 1-1, but a win over Tibau would be Cholish’s biggest win of his career.
