FORTALEZA, Brazil – On a historic night that saw a record eight fights ending by way of submission, three fighters were awarded fight night bonuses for exceptional performances at UFC on FUEL TV 10. Erick Silva, Thiago Silva and Rafael Cavalcante each earned en extra bonus check for their work on Saturday night.
Erick Silva earned “Submission of the Night” honors for his beautiful display of scrambling and finishing ability against Jason High in undercard action and took home 50k for his effort. After High shot for an early takedown, Silva immediately sprawled, quickly transitioned to the back of High and threatened with a rear naked choke. After losing the choke and sliding down the wrestler’s back, he locked a triangle, finally extending the wrestler’s arm. The tap came 71 seconds into the first round.
“Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors were awarded in the same fight, with one man taking two bonuses home. Heated Brazilian rivals Thiago Silva and Rafael Cavalcante engaged in a firefight for the better of the first round to earn “Fight of the Night” and 50k. After “Feijao” looked to take control of the first half of the fight, he then appeared to begin losing steam and noticeably started slowing down. Silva smelled blood and turned on his striking onslaught, landing a crushing uppercut to turn out the lights of Cavalcante at the end of the first round. For the devastating finish, he earned the knockout bonus and another 50k for a grand total of 100k for the entire night.
