In the evening’s fifth bout, Daron Cruickshank defeated Yves Edwards by split decision in a somewhat tepid affair at UFC on Fox 8.
It wasn’t packed with action but it was a closely contested fight — completely contested in standup. Cruickshank used his footwork to move around the Octagon from start to finish, hitting the occasional strike, particularly the unorthodox kicks of his Tae Kwon Do arsenal. A glancing third round axe kick and a side kick were among his highlights.
But “Thugjitsu Master” Edwards moved forward throughout, landing the better hand combinations and often appearing to stay a bit more active. Fighting in his remarkable 63rd official MMA bout, Edwards was fluid in his attack and moved well, but it was not enough to impress the judges.
The scored were read 30-27 Cruickshank, 30-27 Edwards, and 30-27 Cruickshank.
