Just over two weeks away from the July 27th, UFC on FOX 8 event in Seattle, the promotion has announced a couple of changes to the card.
According to the UFC on FOX Sports Twitter feed, Siyar Bahadurzada has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Robbie Lawler due to injury. Stepping into replace the noted striker will be Strikeforce vet Bobby Voelker, who is coming off a decision loss to Patrick Cote in March. Prior to the defeat the rugged welterweight had won three straight fights.
If you’re thinking it seems like Lawler’s been scheduled to fight several different dudes now, you would be right. Originally, the punishing slugger was set to fight former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine, who also had to pull out due to injury. Lawler made his return to the UFC in February and stopped Josh Koscheck.
Lightweight Bobby Green has also pulled out from the event due to injury, and Tim Means has been tapped as his replacement for a fight with Danny Castillo. Means will be looking to rebound from the UD loss he suffered versus Jorge Masvidal in April. Last June, “The Dirty Bird quickly stopped Justin Salas at UFC on FX 3.
Castillo will be fighting for the first time he decisioned Paul Sass at UFC on FUEL TV 7 in February, which followed the Team Alpha Male fighter’s KO loss to Michael Johnson last October.
UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by the Key Arena in Seattle, and in the headliner, flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will battle John Moraga. The event will also feature a pivotal welterweight clash between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger.
