It’s co-main event time for UFC on FOX 23, and there’s lots of violence in store. That’s right, I’m talking about Donald Cerrone versus Jorge Masvidal, who are going to murder each other for our pleasure.
Cerrone scores first with a laser-accurate kick to the body, and he starts chopping away at Masvidal’s legs with kicks and knocks Masvidal’s head back with jabs. “Gamebred” takes it and grins, and fires back with jabs of his own, plus a spinning backfist that lands, a wheelkick that lands and a spinning back-kicks that hits his foe in the stomach. “Cowboy” is too hard-headed to back down though, and also too set in his ways to move his head, so in the waning second of the first round Masvidal is able to drop him with a left. A stunned Cerrone tumbles to the canvas, and only the horn saves Cerrone from getting TKO’d.
Unfortunately, the minute in between rounds isn’t nearly enough for Cerrone to shake off the cobwebs, and he comes out for Round 2 a stationary target just waiting to get murdered. Masvidal soon obliges him, rocking him again with punches, and though Cowboy doesn’t go down, he covers up and just eats it all – prompting referee Herb Dean to jump in.
Masvidal has stopped Cerrone. Wow.
