Khabib Nurmagomedov was supposed to headline this show opposite Tony Ferguson, but when Ferguson bowed out due to injury, it was all about a late replacement and UFC newcomer named Darrell Horcher stepping in just so Nurmagomedov could have a fight. Hey, at least we still get to see Khabib in action, right?
With everything to gain and nothing to lose, Horcher stands right in front of Nurmagomedov and boxes with him – and doesn’t do half bad. In fact, the fight pretty much even… until three minutes have passed, and Nurmagomedov simply lifts Horcher up, carries him to the center of the cage and dumps him to the canvas. The Dagestani wrestling lands in mount, and for the rest of the round Horcher is struggling to make it to the end of the round alive while Nurmagomedov pounds on him.
Thirty seconds into Round 2 and Nurmagomedov turns a single-leg takedown attempt into a clinch and then a throw. This time he lands in side-control, and the punishment resumes. Soon he’s got a mounted crucifix, and when Horcher eats about 100 hammerfists, Nurmagomedov takes his back and simply mauls him. It takes a long time for referee James Warring to step in – maybe too long – but eventually he does, and Nurmagomedov gets the win via TKO.
