Urijah Faber beat two tough opponents tonight at UFC on Fox 9 in his hometown of Sacramento, California: top contender Michael McDonald, and Father Time.
Faber, twelve years McDonald’s elder, earned his 12th win by submission and cemented his position as the number one contender in the bantamweight division.
Faber established an early pace by scoring a takedown only seconds into the fight. Faber also landed well in standup in the first round. In the second, “The California Kid” shook McDonald, of nearby Modesto, California, with right hands. Faber would pounce on a stunned McDonald to secure a guillotine choke. McDonald tapped out at 3:22 of the stanza.
Faber, at age 34, improves to 30-6 with the victory. McDonald, who is at only 22 years old remains one of the sport’s brightest prospects, falls to 16-3.
