If you watched UFC Fight Night 27 in August, you might recall that the preliminary card scrap between Abel Trujillo and Roger Bowling ended in a wee bit of controversy. The bout was declared a no contest, after the ref ruled that a knee from Trujillo hit Bowling in the head while he was technically down. Bowling couldn’t continue (he had also taken a pretty stiff follow punch), and replays indicated the knee might not have been illegal after all.
So, as a result of the controversial ending, and the fact neither man seemed too pleased with the other afterwards, Trujillo and Bowling will reported;y fight again at UFC on FOX 9. The card will take place December 14th in Sacramento, California.
Prior to UFC FN 27, Trujillo (10-5) was dominated by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 160, and lost by unanimous decision. “Killa” had won five straight fights before the bout, which included a stoppage win over Marcus LeVesseur at UFC on FOX 5 last December.
Bowling (11-4), meanwhile, is in a must win situation, as the Strikeforce vet is winless in three bouts and is coming off losses to Tarec Saffiedine and Anthony Njokuani. Prior to that “Relentless” earned back-to-back wins over Jerron Peoples and Brandon Saling.
UFC on FOX 9 will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between champion Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson. It should be a fun night.
