We’re in the home stretch for this UFC Fight Night 82 card, and up now are faded former Strikeforce champ Rafael Cavalcante and the tough Ovince St. Preux.
Right out of the gate St. Preux is stalking the Brazilian around the cage, firing off kicks and punches until he lands a kick at the three-minute mark that very clearly injures his own foot. From that point on, he limps about, and none of his strikes have any of the pop they did moments before.
Amazingly, Cavalcante doesn’t go on the offensive, and in the last minute of the round the American lands an overhand left that rocks him. Cavalcante survives to the bell.
The former Strikeforce champ is incredibly gunshy in Round 2, and with each passing second OSP’s hurt foot bothers him less and less. After three minutes, St. Preux catches Cavalcante off balance and simply pushes him down, and from within his opponent’s guard OSP unloads with a judicious ground and pound.
For the briefest of moments Cavalcante is a man possessed in Round 3, swinging hard and forcing his foe to get the heck out of the way. But then OSP starts tagging him with kicks and punches, and when Cavalcante covers up, he gets taken down. What follows is St. Preux battering a mentally broken man, and the horn sounds with him way ahead on the cards.
Result: Ovince Saint Preux def. Rafael Cavalcante via Unanimous Decision
