When Lyoto Machida announced that he was moving to middleweight, most observers believed the former light-heavyweight champ wouldn’t have an issue, and by all appearances today they were right.
In advance of his UFC Fight Night 30 headliner tomorrow night versus Mark Munoz, Machida came to the scale today looking far from drawn out, and came in at 185 pounds. Munoz also looked vibrant and in good spirits and weighed in at 186.
Machida will be looking to rebound from the controversial, unanimous decision loss he suffered versus Phil Davis at UFC 163, and Munoz will be trying to build on the UD victory he scored over Tim Boetsch at UFC 162. Will Munoz be able to take “The Dragon” down? Chances are we’ll find out tomorrow night.
In the co-main-event, noted strikers Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard will throw down, and both lightweights came in at 156. The two engaged in a respectful square off after making weight, before shaking hands and departing the stage. Although they were all smiles at today’s festivities, that’s a fight you don’t want to miss.
All of the competitors made weight for Saturday’s card, except flyweight John Lineker, who was 128 for his bout with Phil Harris. The contender has one hour to lose the extra pounds.
