The weigh-in for tomorrow’s UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero was completed today, with all of the combatants on the event’s main card successfully making their allotted weight.
Both fighters in the main event, Yoel Romero and Lyoto Machida, weighed at 186 lbs for their middleweight encounter — making the one pound allotment which allowed for non-title fights.
The only fighter to be over was Lewis Gonzales, who failed to make the welterweight limit for his bout against Leandro “Buscape” Silva on the preliminary card. Gonzales, who weighed in at 174 lbs, will have two hours to make weight.
In a brief interview, Machida expressed his confidence that he could successfully implement his karate-based MMA style and earn a victory.
“He’s a phenomenal wrestler,” Machida said. “But I know how to stop his takedowns and apply my technique.”
Romero, whose wrestling credentials include gold medals in Pan-American and Worlds competition, as well as an Olympic silver medal, said only, “I trust in God.”
