John “Hands of Stone” Lineker showed improved conditioning tonight at UFC Fight Night in New Jersey, beating Alptekin Özkiliç to the punch throughout their flyweight affair — en route to a late TKO victory.
The Brazilian Lineker, ranked #7 in the UFC, threw his typical power punches from the opening horn, but this time utilized better movement and pacing. Lineker was able to avoid Özkiliç’s takedowns and counter-punches while consistently landing his right hands.
Lineker worked in uppercuts and body punching as the bout wore on. A left hand to the body followed by a big right dropped Özkiliç, and the bout was stopped as Lineker began pouncing on a downed Özkiliç.
Lineker has been notorious for missing weight but had no problem at yesterday’s weigh in’s. In a post fight interview, Lineker boasted he was ready to fight for the title.
Lineker improved to 5-2 in UFC and 24-7 overall. Özkiliç, originally of Turkey but fighting out of New York, is now 1-2 in UFC, and falls to 9-3 overall.
John Lineker defeats Alptekin Özkiliç by TKO (punches) at 4:51 of round three.
