The second bout of the UFC Fight Night Brown vs. Silva main card was a battle of two international heavyweights, as Australia’s Soa “Hulk” Palelei knocked out South Africa’s Ruan Potts just halfway through the first round.
The +260 underdog Potts, making his UFC debut, found himself on his back shortly after the opening bell — as the almost 20-pounds heavier Palelei ducked under an overhand and shot in with a strong double leg takedown. Palelei eventually worked to the mount position, where a hard left ended the bout at 2:20 of the stanza. Potts, who had struggled to initiate any offense, was left out cold.
The victory was the 11th straight for Palelei, who improves his MMA record to 24-3. Potts falls to 8-2 with the loss.
Soa “Hulk” Palelei defeats Ruan Potts by KO (left hook) at 2:20 of round one.
