Matt Brown ended a night of upsets in fitting fashion tonight at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva, defeating the favored Erick Silva by TKO in a wild welterweight bout.
Brown landed brutal strikes throughout the bout, particularly punch and elbow combo’s to the head in standup. The Cincinnati crowd cheered the Ohio native on, as he landed one hard shot after another. But the end came on the mat, as Brown scored hard elbows and punches to the head to force a referee stoppage in the third round.
Silva had some highlights of his own, including hooks and kicks to the body which shook Brown. In the first round, Silva followed Brown to the mat following a hard body kick and secured back mount with hooks. But Brown recovered to hurt Silva and nearly finish the native of Vila Velha, Brazil with punches as the round wore on.
The win marked the seventh victory in a row for Brown in the UFC, second only to Jon Jones among the promotion’s active fighters.
