The third bout of UFC Fight Night Brown vs. Silva was a tepid welterweight affair, as Neil Magney out-struck and out-wrestled Tim Means (pictured above) to take home a unanimous decision.
Magney took advantage of his considerable length to jab and move throughout the bout, stifling the usually hard-hitting clinch attack. The southpaw Means, who entered the bout a (-240) favorite, was frustrated by Means and his 81″ reach, as well as his takedown ability. Magney took Means down in each round, including a sequence in round three where he achieved both the mount position and back mount with hooks. In one of his only moments of success, Means hit a solid knee to the body in round two, only to see Magney drop to a football-style “three point stance” to avoid being kneed to the head.
The Cincinnati crowd became restless with the bout’s slow nature but cheered at the judges’ decision. Magney improves to 10-3 with the win. Means falls to 20-6-1 with the loss.
At UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva, Neil Magney defeated Tim Means by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
