The “main event” of the UFC Fight Night 94 prelims has big puncher Sam Sicilia taking on Gabriel Benitez. Benitez has racked up a couple wins in the Octagon since his stint on an international season of TUF, so the question here is how well he’ll cope with the American’s ham-fisted style.
Benitez very clearly wants to combat Sicilia’s deadly hands with kicks at range, and he goes to work on Sicilia’s lead leg. Still, the American keeps wading in winging punches, and Benitez has to keep mobile while making sure his head is nowhere it shouldn’t be. A few times Sicilia gets a good flurry in, but by the time the horn sounds, Benitez has done far more damage.
Within the first 30 seconds of Round 2 Benitez drops his opponent with a cross, and though Sicilia recovers enough to fire back, he ducks his head and Benitez latches in with a guillotine. Sicilia doesn’t tap, opting instead to go to sleep.
Result: Gabriel Benitez def. Sam Sicilia via Technical Submission (Guillotine) at 1:20, R2
