Are you ready for the main event? Tonight we’ve got lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos defending his belt against challenger Eddie Alvarez.
We’ve seen RDA crush all who’ve stood before him as of late, and we’ve seen Alvarez narrowly squeak by the likes of Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis. How’s this one going to go?
Round 1 opens with Alvarez landing a couple inside leg-kicks. Dos Anjos stays in the center of the cage stalking him down, and for the first few minutes it seems as if the Brazilian is scoring when and where he wants.
But Alvarez sneaks a right hook through RDA’s defenses, and suddenly Dos Anjos is on jelly legs, and Alvarez is unloading with everything he’s got. Dos Anjos manages to get Alvarez down for a moment, and yet Alvarez won’t be denied, and he scrambles up and continues to batter the Brazilian nonstop. Finally, referee Herb Dean jumps in, and we have a new champ.
Result: Eddie Alvarez def. Rafael dos Anjos via TKO (Punches) at 3:49, R1
