The first bout of the prelim on FOX Sports 1 has Nate Coy taking on regional champ Jonavin Webb.
Those credentials seem to embolden Webb, as he’s not hesitant or gunshy in the least, mixing long jabs with tons of movement and cracking Coy when Coy comes too close with his defenses down. Steady is Coy’s game, though, and he when Webb slows down, he’s right there to chip away at him and stuff his takedown attempt.
Webb comes out strong in the second, getting a slicks takedown before taking Coy’s back. He doesn’t get full control, however, and when Coy escapes, Webb goes for an armbar. Coy escapes that too, and the ensuing grappling battle favors Coy and his wrestling edge. With a minute left in the round Coy gets full mount. The round ends with Webb on his back and Coy standing over him.
Just like in the previous frame, Webb is strong in the opening seconds of Round 3, getting a takedown and transitioning to back-crucifix. Yet Coy’s scrambles are impeccable, and soon Coy is on top wrestle-humping Webb until the clock runs out and Webb is an afterthought.
Result: Nate Coy def. Jonavin Webb via Unanimous Decision
