UFC Fight Night 73 Primer: Four Reasons to Watch

Welcome to the summer of our discontent, where the weeks are full of stifling heat and the weekends feature people getting into cages and beating each other up. This weekend it’s UFC Fight Night 73, which takes place in Nashville, T.N., and features the likes of Glover Teixeira and Ovince St. Preux in the main event. Why should you bother watching this particular installment of UFC action on Fight Pass/FOX Sports 2/FOX Sports 1? Here are four reasons:

  • Ovince St. Preux – It’s taken some time and some seasoning in the Octagon, but this Strikeforce vet-turned UFC stalwart is finally knocking on the door to the elite of the light-heavyweight division. If he can put the tough Teixeira away, there could be some bright things in his future.
  • Sara McMann vs. Amanda Nunes – Neither of this ladies will ever come close to defeating champ Ronda Rousey, and it’s likely they’d never get past Miesha Tate. But hey, the division needs a number three, right?
  • Sam Alvey – Alvey was pretty okay prior to joining the UFC, but damn, since he’s gotten here, he’s been straight-up merking fools. I don’t know what kind of ceiling he’s going to have in the Octagon, but it’s been fun watching him thus far.
  • Michael Johnson vs. Beneil Dariush – Both men are riding a four-fight win streak, and the list of names they’ve conquered is impressive (i.e., Jim Miller, Edson Barboza, etc.). I’m liking whoever wins here as being in line for a title shot soon. Fun!
