The weigh-ins are in the books for tomorrow’s UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas event, with the featherweight headliner, said to determine a number one contender slot for the victor, ready to go as scheduled.
Both fighters have faced current 145 lb kingpin Jose Aldo, but neither has been able to defeat the champion. Still, the bout, between two virtual mirror images in Mendes and Lamas, is highly anticipated. The division in the spotlight, with the excitement around Aldo’s upcoming defense against Conor McGregor.
The rest of the combatants weighed in successfully as well — with one exception.
Jorge Masvidal, who is scheduled to fight fellow lightweight fringe contender Al Iaquinta in the co-main event, narrowly missed the lightweight limit.
Masvidal first weighed at 157, then disrobed to make 156.5. He will have two hours to drop the last half a pound.
(UPDATE: Masvidal made it to 156, or the lightweight limit with one pound allotment for non-title fights. The fight is on.)
The event will begin with preliminary bouts at 11 am ET, and continue with the main card at 1 pm.
