Antonio Carlos Junior, a.k.a. ‘Shoe Face’, won TUF Brasil 3 but has been struggling to gain enough momentum to break into the upper echelons of the middleweight division ever since. Which really tells you all you need to know about the quality of a TUF Brasil fighter, but hey, at UFC Fight Night 119 his opponent was total ham-and-egger Jack Marshman, so here’s one for the home team.
Going up against a jiu-jitsu black belt like Carlos Junior would likely make you want to avoid going to the ground, and for a few fleeting moments, that seemed to be the main idea behind Marshman’s game plan, as he tried to stay in motion while flicking out single strikes. But when the fear of grappling so dominates your mind, it’s hard to be dangerous – and that lack of danger had the Brazilian wading in, securing a takedown, and working into top position. Marshman did his best to survive, but when Shoe Face got into mount the punches fell like rain, and the inevitable roll-over had him soon exposing his neck. And that was just easy money for Carlos Junior.
